Here's Why 'ji32k7au4a83' Is A Surprisingly Common Password

We now live in an age where digital security is a huge priority. Because of that, passwords are becoming even more complex, filled with unique letter and number combinations that are often hard for even the person who created them to remember. With that, no one would be surprised to find out that someone used "ji32k7au4a83" as a password, but it turns out that well over a hundred people have actually used that seemingly-random jumble of characters as their password.

Have I Been Pwned, the website that lets you enter your email address to find out if it's been compromised in a date breach, also has an option to search and see if a specific password has shown up in an breaches as well. Interestingly, they revealed that they've seen the password "ji32k7au4a83" 141 times.

So how could that happen? It turns out that ""ji32k7au4a83" is actually a way of writing "my password," at least if you speak Mandarin Chinese and use a certain kind of keyboard.

The Zhuyin keyboard, which which is used mostly by people in Taiwan to transliterate from Mandarin, along with the unimaginative password "my password," are the reasons behind "ji32k7au4a83" being used so much. People with the Zhuyin keyboard type ji3 to get the Mandarin character for "M," 2k7 for "Y," au4 for the character for "pass" and a83 for the one for "word."
